In Review WiTh The Vampire
Do you like Vampires? Romance? Protagonists with questionable morals? Then join Aisling and Olivia as week-by-week we delve into the Vampire Chronicles series by Anne Rice. This journey will take you all over the world, apparently including the Realms of Atlantis. Feel free to read along as we go if you like, but it’s not a necessity. Glass of red wine also optional. Just please don’t tell Anne Rice about us.
In this week’s reading, things settle down, and then heat up, as Interview with the Vampire covers the middle and end of Louis and Lestat’s time at Pointe du Lac. Olivia and Aisling discuss the ethics of white writers using slavery in their stories, as well as the very specific internet concept we see in the way Louis talks about Babette Freniere. Other topics include Louis’s portrayal of Lestat and his backstory, the manners of the ruling class, and the logistics of vampires needing an invitation to enter a home. Please join us, and wonder, could a vampire get into your sublet?
In Episode 1, Aisling and Olivia begin their journey into Interview with the Vampire (1976). Who is the Vampire? Who is interviewing said Vampire? How many fanfiction tropes can we cover in just 30-odd pages of this published novel? Join us and find out!
In Episode 0, Aisling and Olivia introduce the podcast and themselves, and discuss their beloved saviour Anne Rice.
